A statewide curriculum project was implemented to build a nursing assistant-certified (NAC) to LPN apprenticeship pathway. The collaborating stakeholders included several state agencies, three colleges across the state and partnering long-term care employers. The goal is to provide working NACs support to complete prerequisite courses and LPN programs while working at their long term care facility. In this presentation we will review the steps we took to build this statewide curriculum model and our progress on implementation. We will provide an overview of faculty development, simulation planning and curriculum outlines for the model for others to consider implementing in their own programs. The result should be a more diverse nursing workforce and a better staffed long-term care nursing staff.
Objectives:
Understand possible challenges and meaningful solutions in creating a model curriculum for a NAC/CNA nursing progression pathway.
State possible community partners to build an apprenticeship curriculum for your state or program.
Explain how to provide access for a diverse population to nursing education through existing clinical partnerships.
