My name is Dominic Slauson, and my passion lies at the intersection of education and technology, guiding educators in crafting engaging and effective digital learning experiences. My journey in education took flight in 2012 when I ventured overseas to teach English as a Foreign Language in Hanoi, Vietnam. My students, incredible language learners that they were, benefited as I innovatively integrated traditional classroom instruction with digital learning tools, elevating instruction beyond the classroom in a hybrid online format.
Upon my return to Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 2017, I became a part of Chippewa Valley Technical College's (CVTC) Curriculum & Professional Development (CPD) department as a Technology Professional Developer. My pivotal role included guiding faculty through the intricate maze of online course facilitation and the vast world of e-learning platforms. 2020 witnessed my transition into the role of Online Faculty Developer at CVTC, a position allowing me to zone in on the college's online learning initiatives and provide personalized guidance to individual faculty members. An exceptional opportunity presented itself during this period, allowing me to work with the OpenRN Project as an Instructional Technologist, wherein I contributed to the creation of OER resources and virtual simulations for nursing students.
In 2021, life took me to sunny California, where I embraced the role of an Instructional Technologist & Designer within the Distance Learning team at California State University Northridge. My journey continued as I stepped into my present role at the University of California Irvine as a Learning Experience Designer at the esteemed Paul Merage School of Business. Throughout these transitions, my unwavering commitment has been to usher in effective and compelling digital learning experiences for students.
My academic credentials include a B.A. in Mass Communication from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota. Furthermore, I'm a Google for Education Certified Trainer, a Quality Matters Peer Reviewer, an Apple Teacher, and a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI).
On a personal note, I hold the belief that AI is profoundly reshaping the way we perceive, learn, and teach. I view it as our duty as educators to ethically and responsibly harness the transformative power of AI. This approach has the potential to reimagine and revolutionize the education we deliver, ensuring genuine and impactful learning experiences for our students' future success.
Driven by this passion, I established Codaptive Labs to explore and manifest the endless possibilities of bringing innovative and engaging learning experiences to students. My key areas of focus span Generative AI, Curriculum & Course Design, Simulation Design, Instructional Technology, and Faculty Development. I always welcome interactions with fellow educators, be it to collaborate on groundbreaking projects or to provide faculty development insights on emerging technologies.
Presently, I reside in Tustin, California, accompanied by my wonderful wife and our spirited dog. My personal joys include globetrotting, savoring exotic cuisines (with curry topping the list!), and immersing myself in the world of tech.
If my journey resonates with you or sparks an idea, please don't hesitate to reach out. Let's explore the future of digital learning together!
