Beth C. Phillips, PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE (she/her/hers)

Beth Phillips, PHD, RN, CNE, CHSE, is Strategic Nursing Advisor for ATI Nursing Education. After a career spanning 16 years at the Duke University School of Nursing (Durham, N.C.), she retired in spring 2021, becoming Associate Professor Emeritus and moving in to her position at ATI. Her most recent positions at Duke were working as Associate Professor and Director of the Institute for Educational Excellence. She started her career there as an Assistant Professor. Prior to working at Duke, Dr. Phillips spent 9 years at Vance Granville Community College (Henderson, N.C.), where she was Program Director, teaching and overseeing the Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Programs. Before becoming a nurse educator, Dr. Phillips spent 13 years working at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and Vidant Hospital in medical-surgical and surgical/trauma intensive care. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Waukesha (Wis.) County Technical Institute; her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from East Carolina University (Greenville, N.C.); her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Duke; and her PhD in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. In 2018, she earned her credentials as a Certified Health Simulation Educator. Beth is the current chair of the International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing. Beth's research and teaching interests include ways to better prepare students for practice, helping new educators acclimate to teaching, and designing models/ strategies for teaching that stick.

Beth is the proud mom of four boys and one sweet catahoula/pyrenees pup.
