Dr. Lynette V. Apen serves as the Director of Research Operations and Strategy in the Office of Research Patient Care Services (ORPCS), Stanford Health Care (SHC), where she provides leadership and coordination of a comprehensive research operations strategy infrastructure to support ORPCS clinical and operational teams in elevating SHC’s overall program of research and health equity. Dr. Apen has over 25 years of nursing experience serving in clinical, academic, and nursing leadership roles. She also has extensive experience in curriculum development, program evaluation, accreditation, strategic planning, grant management and leadership development. Dr. Apen’s research and professional interests include nursing student academic progression, nursing student holistic admissions, nursing academic leadership workforce shortages, leadership development and leadership succession planning.


Dr. Apen completed a BSN from Augusta University, MS in Oncology Nursing from the University of California San Francisco, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from San Jose State University.
