402 - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity in Simulation: How to approach situations before, during, and after they occur

The interactive workshop will include a variety of topics and activities focused on diversity, equity, and inclusivity in simulation-based learning. Current evidence on the integration of diversity, equity, and inclusivity into simulation-based learning will be explored. The Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice™ will be discussed including their application to the incorporation of diversity, equity, and inclusivity into simulation-based learning activities. Specific approaches for integrating diversity, equity, and inclusivity into simulation-based learning activities will be discussed and shared that may be applied in the simulation center, skills lab, classroom, or clinical setting. Participants will engage in dialog around the techniques and approaches to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusivity in simulation-based experiences.

Objectives:

  1. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to describe the current state of the evidence regarding diversity equity and inclusion in simulation.
  2. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to identify the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice (HSSOBP)™ and discuss applications of DEI concepts.
  3. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to discuss specific approaches for integrating DEI into simulation experiences.
